We played with Mixed Media and created Pete Cromer-inspired Bird Collages.
Pete Cromer is an illustrator based in Australia. He grew up loving art, knowing that he eventually wanted to work at making things with color and shape. He has a degree in graphic design and worked for Hallmark designing greeting cards. His artwork features animals, portraits, and fairy tales made from bright COLORS and simple SHAPES.

We looked at examples of his colorful birds and thought about which birds we might like to create. Then, we talked about how the birds would be designed as a collage with painted papers that we make as a group and share.

We discussed Primary Colors and the Color Wheel and used Acrylic paint on mixed media paper.  We used various tools to create fun designs on our paper.

Next, we drew and painted our bird bodies. We did this by drawing a simple shape for the bird's outline. Then, we painted them with acrylic paint and big brushes. Finally, we learned how to shade by adding white to the color.

We assembled the collages and mounted them on black foam boards the following week.
